Nancy Swift was a beloved member of our club. She was instrumental in the early development of The Bourne Skating Club, and during her term as president contributed greatly to the growth and well being of the club as a whole. Nancy joined us with the NEICC; introduced Ice Dancing, worked tirelessly on Christmas Shows and to promote our Synchronized Skating Teams. She represented BSC on a committee of the Ice Skating Union to bring the first World Synchronized Skating Competition to Boston. Nancy worked closely with The Bourne Recreation Authority to provide the BSC with a club room as well as the jumping harness.
She will always be remembered for her warmth, intelligence, hard work, dedication and joy. She is lovingly remembered as always being a good sport, quick to lend a hand, always with a smile. The Bourne Skating Club would not be what it is today, had it not been for Nancy’s commitment.
She will forever be missed by those that knew her and loved her.
To honor Nancy’s memory, the Bourne Recreation Authority created and funded the Nancy M. Swift Scholarship. The scholarship is now maintained and funded by the Bourne Skating Club. Each year scholarships are awarded to those applicants who have shown leadership, strength of character, and BSC community involvement. The applicant must be a full or associate member of the Bourne Skating Club in good standing, and a high school senior.
